Comedian Jimmy Kimmel Makes Fake News with Pence Joke Coverup

3 min read

Jimmy Kimmel having trouble getting the facts straight as he tries to entertain from home during the pandemic.

Watch the segment below as Late Night Host/ Comedian maliciously uses a trimmed clip of Mike Pence delivering PPE to a Virginia Health Care Center on May 7th.

While comedians should have free reign on what topics they make jokes on, good jokes don’t maliciously slander others. Don’t be fooled, the clip shown above was in no way an ‘honest-mistake’ edit error. Literally seconds after the the clip is cut, Pence finishes off his own joke by closing up the delivery van doors. Watch below to see the extended clip of Pence taking a crack at comedy with his own joke.

You see in the extended clip Pence, as well as others unloading many full, heavy boxes from a delivery van. Once they finally finish the delivery Pence who just got a workout jokes “Well can I carry the empty ones? Just for the camera.” After he got some laughs from those surrounding he finished off the joke by closing the van doors.

While Kimmel is under fire for not revealing the seconds following his cut clip, the beginning footage that was cut out of Kimmel’s clip was just as damming, giving him no excuse for his actions. Kimmel’s clip on shows Pence unloading a couple boxes before joking to carry the empty ones, where in reality Pence helped unload many boxes out of the van- likely tiring him- leading him to make such a joke. Full context is always important and Kimmel cut out context given before and after to make his political jab.

It was an honor to see the Vice President getting his hands dirty and assisting the front lines of the efforts to fight this pandemic. If Pence’s behavior of helping those in need warrants comments like “Magic Mike”, and “a big box of nothing, delivering a big box of nothing” then there may be no way to appease Hollywood Liberals.

While Hollywood stars get pats on the back and praise for singing songs, and Zooming, poor Mike Pence gets slandered for directly combating this pandemic with his leadership and assisting the frontlines.

Kimmel has responded since the backlash, although it’s difficult to call an apology. While a good comedian can apologize and laugh off their mistakes, Kimmel instead pushed out a sarcastic based apology.

The days of Late Night Show hosts who exemplified ‘Class’ and were respected by the country are long gone. For a while now comics have dominated Late Night show roles with a goal of amassing as many viral takes as they can in hopes for network for ratings, even gambling at using fake news for viral takes. It sure worked initially. The first shown clip above of Kimmel is nearing 300K Twitter likes- how many of those who liked and retweeted know the true story?
